Hello I’m an Anonymous Projectionist that has to play Transformers - Dark of the Moon -
Dear Michael Bay,
Thanks for your letter. I really appreciate getting told how to do my job by a rich-ass big-time Hollywood director (or, as you prefer, Director). What myself and thousands of other projectionists, and probably millions of film-goers would appreciate even more is if you spent less time writing letters and use those precious minutes to learn how to make a movie that doesn’t suck ass.
I realize that as a director (sorry, Director) your first thought when audiences are “underwhelmed” by a 3D movie is to blame the quality of the projected image, but that’s like a surgeon blaming the scalpel when the patient dies. The truth is, I could brighten up your movies so much their eyes bleed, and audiences still won’t be able to figure out what the hell is going on during the blurry, shaky, jumbled fight scenes you shoot with eighteen robots jumping around that ALL LOOK THE SAME.
What’s criminal is that big battle scenes are the only reason for your Transformers movies to exist, since the stories make no damn sense. Do any of the over-paid shmucks that slapped this mind-blowingly bad movie together even understand that “dark of the moon” (not in your movie) is a completely different thing than the “dark side of the moon?” Have one of your hot assistants google it and educate you.
Yeah, my theatre invested a lot of cash to be able to play 3D and charge suckers more money. So why don’t you do your job and make a movie that’s actually worth watching, let alone seeing in 3D.
I too want the audience to believe. It’s amazing to sit up here in my booth and hear a crowd react with shock and awe to a great scene, even if I’ve seen it a thousand times. But if hacks like you don’t get your act together, the only thing audiences will believe is that 3D summer blockbusters are made by money-grubbing morons, and and they’ll stop showing up.
Thanks for starting this conversation. Since we’re all in this together, I figured you’d be very excited to hear our thoughts.
All the best,
A Projectionist
