Black Panther Fantasy Draft

I picked up some buzz on the internets about actor Michael Jai White’s desire to play the Marvel Comics character the Black Panther. Props to White — but my fantasy pick for the part is  Chiwetel Ejiofor.

There is no Black Panther movie seriously in the works (I haven’t heard if the Panther will be in the upcoming Avengers movie), but it did get me thinking how good a flick it could be. The Black Panther isn’t just a guy running around in tights, he’s the ruler of a technologically super-advanced African nation!

(When I’m about to lose hope with all humanity, I like to think about how two white guys could create such a pro-black character like the Panther in the 60s.)

Chiwetel can act his ass off, and I’ve watched him convincingly kick butt in films like Serenity and Redbelt. And the success of Iron Man and the Nolan Batman films show that superhero films work best when all the special effects are anchored by great performances.
